My friend Kourtnie posted these questions from an article - the questions are supposed to help free your mind. I am always a fan of that, so let's give them a whirl.
1. How old would you be if you didn't know how old you were?
My gut says 29. I am 28 now, and I feel like I am coming into myself fully. 29 is young enough to have loads of fun, but old enough to really know and love myself and to enjoy the calm moments too. That feels natural to me.
2. Which is worse, failing or never trying?
This is something I am pretty passionate about - never trying is WAY worse. I don't even really believe in failure. I believe we try to do lots of things, and if we don't succeed at the specific thing we were aiming for (i.e. running a marathon) we either (a) succeeded in realizing we hate running or (b) succeeded anyway because we tried and became more healthy in the process. Failure is a flawed concept and we owe it to ourselves to try things and live life!

3. If life is so short, why do we do so many things we don't like, and like so many things we don't do?
I am a big fan of just not doing things I don't like. Sometimes we do things we don't like because (a) they are necessary to live life (like working), (b) we want to make someone else feel good (family issues, etc.), or (c) we think it will help us get to doing something we DO like (running sucks, but we feel healthier). I think those are fair reasons to do things we don't love, but those are about it.
4. When it's all said and done, will you have said more than you've done?
I certainly hope not. I talk a lot, but I try to back it up with things I will most definitely get out and DO.
5. What is the one thing you'd like to change most about the world?
Greed. I think if we took greed away, we'd do away with lots of wars, corruption in government, welfare issues, etc.
6. If happiness were the national currency, what kind of work would make you rich?
Traveling and writing about it!
7. Are you doing what you believe in, or are you settling for what you're doing?
Right now? Definitely settling for what I am doing. My job is not my ideal, but I will get there.
8. If the average human lifespan were 40 years, how would you live your life differently?
I'm not sure I'd change anything, actually. I don't feel any rush to have children, and I have done things as they felt natural. That's happy to me, so I think I'd still be where I am. I may have bought less clothes and shoes and traveled more, though!
9. To what degree have you actually controlled the course your life has taken?
About 60/40, maybe...the 60 being things I have controlled. I am a big believer in choice and purposeful action. I believe in the idea that "life is 10% what happens to us and 90% how we react to it" - what matters most are our choices in life. I do like to just let things go sometimes and see where life takes me, so I have a pretty good balance.
10. Are you more worried about doing things right or doing the right things?
I think about doing things right for my life (that includes Wes's life too, as my spouse), but I don't spend time thinking about doing the "right things" - that goes back to choices. When I have a decision to make, I try to do the right things, sure...but that's natural and not something I worry about.
