...see, the problem is that she loves us too much. She doesn't want to sleep separate, darn it! But she must...no dogs can sleep in bed with us (that's the rule). Plus, to crate train, they have to have a small place to sleep so they won't go #1 or #2 in it, instead, they will hold it until they can get out and we can take her outside.
On THAT part (potty training) she is a gem! We are learning her habits and the only tiny accidents have been more our fault for not realizing that she has to go after every meal, nap, and crazy playtime. I learned today that a puppy's hold-it time usually corresponds to their age, they can hold it 1 hour for every month old they are. Well, she is only 10 weeks and 2 days old. Basically a little over two months. BUT she basically holds it at night for 4 hours - so that's great! During the day she's awake more, so I give it less time then.
So the night time wanting-to-be-with-us is the worst part. She cries, we have to put our hand in the crate so she calms down...Wes even lays down beside it in the floor. He is a loving puppy dad. We have to reward her for the times she is quiet and calm in the crate. It's snug as a bug in a rug in there, so she's definitely not uncomfortable - I'm slightly jealous I don't get to sleep in it! She's only been away from her litter for about 2 weeks, so it's not surprising that she cries a bit.
Our first animal love, Callie, is still uncertain...she isn't really scared, but more weirded out by this little animal, so she just hisses and stays in her own room. Wes's room is now Callie's room. She is snug in there as well. She still plays and comes out at night (she's in the living room with me now)...she'll adapt.
Our #1 concern has been being gone for 4 hours while at work. For the next couple of weeks, I am hoping to switch up my schedule a bit and come home mid-morning for a bit and then for late lunch. This will tack 30 t0 45 minutes onto my day, but Wes gets off an hour before me, so we've got it covered. FYI - dog walkers are expensive.
And THEN there's the fact that we're going to New Orleans this weekend for our first anniversary. The trip has been planned for ages. I am trying to get someone to house sit and be present with Macy, Callie, and the fishes. Shouldn't be hard because I am paying nicely if I can find someone I trust.
Macy has been quite funny today...she LOVES to play and will be an athletic dog. I bought a book about the breed and am feeling quite enlightened about cocker spaniels - to be specific, she's an American Cocker Spaniel. She is a chewer right now, but really only her toys, thank goodness! She has good textured teething toys and she chomps them. She also loves Milk Bones for puppies.
She gives lots of love...
She loves to eat and cleans her bowl every time. I had to get the rubber-bottomed bowl so she wouldn't push it everywhere. She still likes to move the whole mat, bowl and all.
This was originally meant for Callie, but she won't sleep on it...but Macy instinctively knew it was a bed for her. It was weird...she literally found it, dragged it out, and laid on it. And I told you she likes her fries.
"I am cute and I know it."
She is actually asleep like this, yes.
Macy wants to go to EMT school, too.
But then we annoy her and she just wants to sleep.
...and on that note, goodnight!

So glad Callie is going to accept Macey - sounds good progress Jess. What a sweetie! Your heart melts when you see her in these photos! She is so so loved and has wonderful parents that's for sure. So interesting to read yr blogg. Enjoy...love Chris
